Lucas-Kennedy Foundation Moves Forward with “Creative Hands, Sustainable Hope” at the Orlindi Orphanage

The Foundation is moving forward with Creative Hands, Sustainable Hope, a new cottage-industry initiative at the Orlindi Orphanage in Katutura, Windhoek, Namibia. The Foundation expects the first collection of greeting cards created through the project to be ready for the 2026 holiday season.
The Orlindi Orphanage provides a safe and nurturing environment for vulnerable children who have experienced abandonment, neglect, or the loss of parental care. Like many community- based centers in Namibia, Orlindi depends heavily on periodic donations to meet recurring operating expenses, including electricity, water, and cooking fuel. Creative Hands, Sustainable Hope aims to establish a modest, dependable income stream while giving children meaningful opportunities for creative expression, teamwork, confidence-building, and introductory entrepreneurial learning.
During the 12-month pilot phase, children at Orlindi will work together to design original greeting cards for Christmas, Easter, birthdays, and other special occasions. The artwork will reflect Namibian culture, local artistic traditions, and the children’s individual creativity. The cards will be produced in Namibia and marketed and distributed in the United States through the Lucas-Kennedy Foundation’s networks.
Revenue from greeting card sales will support Orlindi’s utility expenses, helping the orphanage reduce its dependence on unpredictable donations. Over time, seasonal collections and new designs will help sustain customer interest and create a continuing source of unrestricted support.
Beyond its immediate benefit to Orlindi, Creative Hands, Sustainable Hope is intended to serve as a replicable model for other orphanages, shelters, and centers of safety for women and children across Namibia. By combining locally inspired creativity with international marketing and philanthropic support, the project reflects the LK Foundation’s commitment to advancing practical, sustainable, and community-driven development.
